We read a narrative literary non-fiction book about a person each week. The first week was about Jane Goodall in Me...Jane by Patrick McDonnell. The second week was Abraham Lincoln in Looking at Lincoln by Maira Kalman. The third week was Henry "Box" Brown in Henry's Freedom Box by Ellen Levine. Finally, the fourth week was Dr. Seuss in The Boy on Fairfield Stree: how Ted Geisel grew up to become Dr. Seuss by Kathleen Krull.
I sent home a little bookmark about this information and we really enjoyed learning about new people!
For March we will read more story-type literature and practice picking out the parts of a story - characters, setting, the beginning, middle, and end.
