Welcome back to school at Harry Stone! The library will open up for student check-out September 8th. Until then we are working on finishing weeding out the non-fiction section, getting new books ready for check out, planning class schedules and collaborating on lesson plans with teachers. Thanks for your patience while we get ready!
Also, awesome job to all of our readers who participated in the Mayor's Summer Reading Challenge, we will be posting those participants soon... Thanks, Mrs. W Welcome back all,
August has whizzed by already and it is time to share my update here on the website that I sent out last week to staff!! Ms. Crawford and I have been busy busy whipping the library into shape and I think we are as ready as we can be to open up for check-out. Last week 1-3 students came for library "orientation" tours and 4-6 just finish up their tours yesterday. Seventh and eighth graders, I am hoping to see your classes by the end of the week, but it will be up to your teacher/s and when is most convenient for them. Classes came by for a visit to see our new arrangement, new book drop, Young Adult section, rearranged reading areas, etc. We have received over the summer and at the beginning of school 141 NEW chapter books for the Fiction and Young Adult sections, 157 NEW Non-Fiction books, and 66 NEW picture books for the Easy Fiction section. :0) Also, last week I sent in SEVEN boxes of books to be processed for our site worth ~$2,411.35!! All of these books are newly published review books that I get for **FREE** for our school because I have connections like that! lol Actually, my mom receives review books for her school library and many are double copies of what they send her or they don't apply to her school population so she happily shares with us. Thanks mom! Finally...I've saved the best news for last...we are getting NEW CARPET and a little bit of tile in the library!!!!!!!! WOOOOHHHOOOOOOO!!!!!!! A big THANK YOU to Ms. Curry for making it happen :0) It will be installed by mid-October. YAY!!!! Love your librarian, Kari L. Worsham, M.L.S. Harry Stone Montessori Academy Library Good Afternoon,
Most of the staff has met me during in-service. Students will start coming to the library next week for orientations/introductions. If you haven't met me yet, there is another August blog post where I introduce myself. Please consider this posting a monthly update/newsletter from the library. I will always try to post it on or near the last day of the month. This month I just wanted to do a quick introduction and give you a few other updates. First off, welcome to the library's new website! Please explore and check it out! I added a teacher info tab above, where I posted the Classroom Website Ideas list for your reference. I will leave this posted until September 30th before changing the info to anything new. I will be adding a tab for students in the coming month, so something to look forward to! The library is now running a Twitter account, please feel free to follow us @HSMALibrary. After Student Orienations/Introductions, the library will be open for business. Classes may start coming anytime after their Orientation, unless I have arranged something different for your class. I will be adding the library hours to the website soon. Thank you all for your patience while I've been moving in and getting started! I will be attending a new librarian training all day this Thursday, Sept. 2nd and a district orientation the morning of Wednesday, September 8th, so if you don't see me you know where I am. A thank you in advance to Ms. Crawford for holding down the fort those days! I look forward to getting to know and working with all of you! Kari L. Worsham, M.L.S.
