This past week Library Services contacted me to let us know that Harry Stone was the first school this year slated to receive updated computers for the library. I am happy to announce we now have 10 nice & shiny flat screen Dell computers and all of our workstations (except the Chancery computer, this will be updated later this spring by our CBT) have been upgraded to Windows 7!! Yay! So far, last year and this year, Ms. Crawford and I have been able to keep up an ongoing inventory following the guidelines set by Library Services. This requires us to inventory certain sections of the library at certain times of the year. Thus far it has not interrupted the flow of the library, however, the next area up for inventory is Non-Fiction, which is the largest section of the library. I am going to officially close the library February 1-3 to do inventory. I'm sorry for the interruption this may cause and if we are done sooner then I'll be happy to reopen, but it is such a large section we need to give it our full attention so we don't accidentally set the collection to missing (nightmare!!). Next, teachers please don't forget the 3rd 6 weeks closes on February 24th. Please refer to the online library calendar to schedule your iStation visit. http://hsmalibrary.weebly.com/calendar.html Also, while your students are here and a captive audience I have a few reminders to cover with them when they are finished with iStation. 1-3 & 4-6 please expect to stay the full hour that we schedule on the calendar. Topics covered will be general reminders to an overview of looking books up on the library catalog and how to sign into it. Circulation Statistics 3rd 6 wks:
From September:
Please feel free to stop by tonight at P/T conferences! I will stay here until 5-ish if you need to see me about your child's account or after that take a peek in the windows to check out our new flooring!
Welcome back all,
August has whizzed by already and it is time to share my update here on the website that I sent out last week to staff!! Ms. Crawford and I have been busy busy whipping the library into shape and I think we are as ready as we can be to open up for check-out. Last week 1-3 students came for library "orientation" tours and 4-6 just finish up their tours yesterday. Seventh and eighth graders, I am hoping to see your classes by the end of the week, but it will be up to your teacher/s and when is most convenient for them. Classes came by for a visit to see our new arrangement, new book drop, Young Adult section, rearranged reading areas, etc. We have received over the summer and at the beginning of school 141 NEW chapter books for the Fiction and Young Adult sections, 157 NEW Non-Fiction books, and 66 NEW picture books for the Easy Fiction section. :0) Also, last week I sent in SEVEN boxes of books to be processed for our site worth ~$2,411.35!! All of these books are newly published review books that I get for **FREE** for our school because I have connections like that! lol Actually, my mom receives review books for her school library and many are double copies of what they send her or they don't apply to her school population so she happily shares with us. Thanks mom! Finally...I've saved the best news for last...we are getting NEW CARPET and a little bit of tile in the library!!!!!!!! WOOOOHHHOOOOOOO!!!!!!! A big THANK YOU to Ms. Curry for making it happen :0) It will be installed by mid-October. YAY!!!! Love your librarian, Kari L. Worsham, M.L.S. Harry Stone Montessori Academy Library Budget 6.0 released by the board still lists my job as well as Ms. Crawfords in the Harry Stone budget. Many librarians (elementary) are being cut to half time if their school enrollment is below 500. Stone's enrollment was 531.
See 6.0 here: http://www.dallasisd.org/finoutlook/resources/ProposedbudgetV60.pdf Search for Stone Montessori, you will have to click ahead several times to find positions that are listed. |
