Read to Succeed is a free program sponsored by Six Flags Theme Parks. Every student who completes six hours of recreational reading before the school's deadline (February 15, 2013) is eligible for a free admission ticket valid at participating Six Flags Theme Parks. Parent letters and reading logs should come home today in Thursday Folders. Your child should use the reading log to record what and how long he/she reads. Your child must complete six hours or 360 minutes of recreational reading. This means your child can read books, magazines, newspapers, comics, graphic novels, or e-readers. Reading for a homework or a class assignment does not count. Your child can read silently, aloud, or with an adult - you can read to your child, or your child can read to you. Remind your child to return the reading log on time to his/her teacher. Late entries will not be accepted. Tickets will be distributed by the librarian. The ticket is valid for admission on select dates during the 2013 season. Dates will be included on the tickets. Tickets are valid for one free admission only, are not for resale and are not transferable, and cannot be replaced if lost, stolen, or damaged. Six Flags and Mrs. Worsham hope that you and your child enjoy this free program and spend time reading together. Happy Reading! Found this amazing site today...it seems she is homeschooling the Montessori way. Click the Montessori Resources and Recommendations she has for some crazy good information. I wish I had time to read it all!! :0)
Also of note, that isn't actually on the report...I got our campus signed up for Read to Succeed Friday afternoon. More information about that as it becomes available will be forthcoming. According to the information on the site more info will be out on Monday, Oct. 15th.
Pk-K began library classes earlier this school year. We have been talking about book care...if your child is talking about not eating their book then that is why. The title we have been discussing has been called, "Read It, Don't Eat It." :0) Mrs. Jefferson's 1-3 class has their Book Box Book Reports on display in the library. 4-6 has learned how to log on to the library catalog and request books from other schools via inter-library loan. You can do this also as a staff member! Log in by clicking on "My Account" and use your staff ID. You may need to add a "1" or a "10" in front of your number to make it 7 digits long. The PIN is the last 4 digits of your staff ID. To search all of DISD please use the url library.dallasisd.org. You can also access the library using our App!! Click here for more information on downloading to your iDevice or Android. iStation is still pending...we've not received any information about using it this school year other than it may be available for Middle School. |
